seeing a alcohol therapist ,bless him he must be so tired of the lies people tell him, we together have made a plan of action all on my part i might add, but my goals i have set seem unrealistic ,i think i should of thought them out first ,because I'am also in cbt for anxiety and I've got certain goals for that as well. you see my nature is this i'am aperfectionist and i beat my self up if i fail any goals that i have set my self, i know maybe thats where i'am going wrong,
anyway hope to meet similar like minded peeps on here

Welcome to SR Shecat
Why do you think your goals are unrealistic? I am a bit of a perfectionist too and have a tendency to put too much pressure on myself, but in some ways it is quite simple, just don't drink and do whatever it takes to support that decision. You'll find lots of help here x

Very pleased to meet you, shecat! We all want to help.
I tried most of my life to control the amounts I drank. I never was able to - and very bad things happened. I put myself in danger and never led the life I should have. It was such a relief to be free of it, and to live life with eyes wide open. You've made a wonderful decision.

Welcome, and I hope that you start to feel comfortable with your goals. You can get rid of the alcohol in your house and not buy anymore. Just take it day by day and we are always here to offer support.
Welcome! If you feel that your goals are unrealistic, have you considered constructing new goals? Maybe make them small goals that getting bigger over time? It helps me to make goals like "I will make it through today sober" or "I will make it through the week sober" and now I'm making my new goal to make it another month sober.
Just remember, recovery plans can be changed to work better with your life/mindset as you move through the different stages of recovery.

Welcome from another perfectionist! It's not a very PC quote anymore but you get the sentiment:
"Perfectionism is spelled d_i_s_a_b_l_e_d" Winston Churchill
I try and do 'enough' these days.
It's good to have you around

I've never heard that quote before Sazzle ....
Churchill did say 'the maxim ‘Nothing but perfection’ may be spelled ‘Paralysis’' tho
welcome shecat - like others have said - if you need to renegotiate your expectation and your goals, then by all means discuss that with your counsellor and do it
welcome to SR - there's a ton of support here...you're not alone

Shecat, welcome to SR. I swear, I was just talking with another new member about how we are doing approaching sobriety, and she said she felt exactly as you described, afraid, anxious, a perfectionist and afraid of disappointment.
We talked about how fear of failing can make her freeze, and that any doubt in herself comes from the urge of addiction to just keep drinking. She decided that there is nothing stopping her from quitting, other than thoughts. She has refused to accept a future controlled by alcohol and has decided that she has the ability, the power, to quit.
You can do this too, Shecat.

Welcome to SR, Shecat!
I am a hardcore perfectionist, so I understand what you are talking about. Do not overwhelm yourself with it. Try to eat elephant one bit at a time.
Take care and keep posting.
