Maintaining sobriety everyday teaches me that it is better to be free than enslaved.

Duh! (I say to myself)

It's more about what I can contribute than what can be contributed to me

Maintaining my sobriety every day has taught me that although I will probably always struggle with depression and anxiety, alcohol does NOT make them go away. The temporary relief is not worth the big crash and the awful feelings of guilt that follow a binge!

Maintaining my sobriety every day teaches me that I deserve a healthy, sober life. I didn't choose the beginning of my story but I can choose the ending and it doesn't have to end at the bottom of a bottle.

Wow, these are very inspiring. I'm new, but so far, maintaining sobriety has taught me just how much alcohol distorts the senses and perceptions of self, relationships, and the experiences of day-to-day life.

Maintaining my sobriety every day has taught me how I have wasted so many days of my life by drinking and not to take life for granted

Maintaining my sobriety every day teaches me that you can be up against life's most difficult challenges, and because you are sober, you can show up and be fully present and engaged and ready to assist.

And that's what it's all about.

Maintaining sobriety everyday teaches me that
I can live a regular life like other people
And cope with the struggles and celebrate the joys
Just like others do.

That if I get the urge to drink, I can just eat some salad. Or watch a video online. Or clean something. Or go for a walk. Or do pretty much anything except drink.

(Though I only have 10 days tomorrow.)

That I had a sobriety problem more of a drinking/drugging problem. When I could drink/drug I was able to cope and get through the rough days because I had a lot of practice at it. My problem was living sober, I didn't, couldn't, wouldn't willingly sit in reality because reality sucked most of the time so 40oz. to freedom I come. So yeah, maintaining sobriety everyday teaches me how little I know about living life sober.

Teaches me that I don't have to drink to escape or numb stress, anxiety, feelings and thoughts. Those things don't control my actions. I can find other ways to deal or just give it time.

Maintaining sobriety teaches me that I can learn and rely on other coping skills to help me through the day when times are rough.

Maintaining sobriety teaches me that
I can find better ways to actually solve all the situations I was running from
and grow stronger with each solution.

That it's much, much much more possible than I ever believed it was, and that this in itself is a gift

Maintaining sobriety everyday
teaches me that
I have two choices:
I can feel sorry for myself that I can't drink,
or,
I can feel grateful that I have found the solution to my addiction
and it is one totally within my control
and that will totally work:
I just don't drink!
