Day 17- A milestone for me
Day 17- A milestone for me
Happy Sunday Everyone!!!
17 days may not seem like a long time, however, to me it is a huge number. This marks my longest period of sobriety since pregnancy and nursing (almost five years ago). The best part is now each day is now one day longer.
I had so many day ones that I knew I needed a plan this time. I have been meeting with a counselor, going to classes once a week, finding a program that works for me, and sticking close to SR. I know there will be stressors and triggers in the future, but I also know I don't want to go backwards, and that I can handle those stressors in a healthier way: meetings, exercise, SR, or reaching out to my husband and a few close friends.
Thank you to all of my SR friends for helping me to get to this point, I look forward to continuing to share celebrations with all of you, and reaching out when I need help.

17 days is huge, don't sell yourself short by thinking that it's not that long. In my experience the first few weeks feel like an eternity. What I've learned is that it DOES get easier over time. Well done my friend and keep it up!

Delilah,
That is awesome work! Just hang in there. The early days are tough. I'm still sort of in that early phase -- day 66 for me today. The temptations to drink will become less and less and will become more mental rather than physical in nature. And yes, each day is a very long day for us alcoholics recovering. It has felt like a life time since I quit. But it's been wonderful not waking up with a horrible hangover every morning among other things. Hang in there!
