This is not ... and I repeat NOT an endorsement of AA, however, the principles contained in this movie apply to all of us. Namely, that nobody understands a drunk like another drunk. I watched this film this afternoon (and in rehab) and found many pearls of wisdom in it. I think many of us will see ourselves in the character of Bill W.
Mods can move this to the AA forum if they wish but I am not posting this to promote AA. I only put it here to show our members that we are not unique. Only an addict can understand another addict. That is why SR is here. If you wish, substitute "AA" for "SR." This is a safe place where people can come to share their stories of addiction without judgment.
In any event ... here is the link to the film "My Name is Bill W." Mods can move it to the AA forums, but I think Bill's experience was a catalyst toward the larger movement of "recovery" in general. Many "non-12-step" programs still utilize the ideas of early AA ... most importantly that addicts are best helped by other addicts.
Wishing you all a sober weekend, regardless of how you get there.
