Debt

I owe almost $3000 back to the government. Why was I so careless with drinking? I wish I could erase it all and start over.

You can start over right now. Make a plan to pay your debt back. The government will likely work with you if they know you are serious about a payment plan.

$100 a month and done.
Break it down Buddy!
I know a guy owes Euro 90 million. He looks as if he ate it rather than drank it, but that is a whole other story!

Yes, all you can do is to work on paying off the debt, slowly but surely.

Freebird,

I am in the same situation with debt and finances right now...fact is, we are in the situation and wracking our brain over the why isn't going to change anything...

I never was good with money and putting substances in the mix was a guaranteed recipe for disaster. For the time being I have relinquished access to all bank accounts debit cards etc until we get caught up on bills and THEN are able to start putting money towards debt.

God will provide all you need. Think of it this way: if you were sill actively drinking, there is no way you would be thinking about this right now....this is a GOOD thing, you have the opportunity to make things right.

Not sure where you are, but if it's the IRS, they will def work with you. LOW payments too. I did crap like that, didn't pay bills, because I just didn't want to deal with it. You can get your stuff back together. Just don't drink.

I am thankful every day that I don't have to deal with life's little trials with a hangover anymore.

I was in a lot of debt through gambling. Roughly £10000/$16000. I had to go bankrupt. I had a Debt Relief Order. It's like a mini bankruptcy. It wipes off all your debt and you have to stay under the conditions for a year. I am not sure whether there is any type of US agency that does this or offers similar debt advice.

Financial ruin here also. With one in college and two more headed that way, we wonder how and why we could have done that to our children.
The only thing we can do. Stay sober. Dig out of debt.
Pay it forward.

I'm a big believer in payment plans - I've found most people (even the Government) are very amenable to a reasonable payment plan...if you approach them first.

They're less flexible if they have to chase you up
