Re: Books on Recovery, Spirituality & Codependence

Reading has always been one of my favorite passtimes, since I was a child. I haven't been able to read anything of signifigance (ie a book) for many years now owing either to the environment, my health or both (I cannot concentrate properly and I put that down to toxic or stressful environments I'm in)

If I was able to read a book today here are some I would choose from recommended authors;

'From Surviving to Thriving' by Pete Walker

'When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress' by Gabor Mate

'The Body Keeps the Score' by Bessel van der Kolk

Another title which caught my eye, from an author I hadn't heard of is 'It's not me: Understanding Complex Trauma, Attachment and Dissociation' by Anabel Gonzalez

thanks

The author listed for the book Perfect Daughters is incorrect. Robert Ackerman is the correct name.

My recent discovery - "Addicted to Unhappiness" by Martha Heineman Pieper.

I've been looking for quite a while for a book to shed some light on why after every success I tend to destroy at least part of it, and why I find grotesque comfort in misery.

It confirmed my own observations about roots of my sabotage and added new perspective to it.

The book may seem repetitive sometimes, but a legit read overall.

A book I am reading now really speaks to me. It's not specifically about addiction/recovery, but its philosophy is very suitable to living in recovery. It's called The Daily Stoic, and it's by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. I find Stoicism very interesting and logical. It's a book of daily meditations, a page a day. I find it easy to read and very insightful. I highly recommend it.
