"Blackout: Remember the Things I Drank To Forget" by Sarah Hepola.

Bought it last night (& saw her speak) & I haven't been able to put it down today. It goes beyond being a drunk, getting sober & living happily ever after. This is a unique perspective on getting sober & what happens next. It's riveting, emotional and complex. She tells my (our) story with unflinching candor. It's a must-read - can't recommend it enough.

SW, I LOVE 'You Can Heal Your Life' by Louise Hay.

It reminds us that we can choose positive thoughts to change our lives for the better.

Thank you so much for this recommendation. Got through the audiobook in 2 days. Thanks so much, it was so helpful.

Also, I went through Dry by Augusten Burroughs in 2 days. Both were amazing in their own way.

I'm going to do a mini book review because I am so disgusted by this book. I hope others will read it and add their opinions.

Ms. Bydlowska is a professional, thirty-something single woman who is about 3 or so yrs into recovery when she gives birth to a son. She begins drinking immediately after her son's birth, and continues drinking until beyond the first birthday of her son.

I do not judge her for drinking while caring for an infant. What I judge her for, is for writing this book. I do NOT think she should never talk to her child about the first year. At some point that could be appropriate. In my opinion, she should involve minimal details. However, in this self-serving book, I believe that she is replacing her addiction to alcohol with her addiction to portraying herself as the drunk, sexy mom, constantly seeking attention. There is no insight in her book. It is truly cringe-worthy. What could possibly be gained by putting all the drunken, dangerous, immoral behaviour out there for her family and later for her son to read? Unbelievable.
I have to say, I got a lot out of this book as a new father. I am glad I read it. It wasn't perfect, but I found it honest and interesting.

Thanks for your input, Beeraholic! I was really ranting wasn't I!

I agree the book was definitely honest and interesting. I think what bothered me the most was thinking of her child reading all those details. On the other hand, she did get it together and that's what matters.
