I had that 'Why did I wait so long' feeling too.
But regarding everything else I just trusted people here when they said it gets better. There is no downside to being sober, things can only improve from that point on x

Trying to plan the future isn't necessary, it's not even possible. All we can do is to make the right decisions in the present moment. The present moment is all there is, because is the only time when anything happens, and it is the only time over which we have any control.

Faith was foreign to me too Fernanceman - I was if not hardcore atheist certainly hardcore agnostic - I changed later but that's another post 
but...doubting Dee, control freak, and self hater that I was, I nevertheless trusted the people here who told me it would get better, so long as I stayed a true course...and it did..
Things don't always work out the way I thought, or even the way I wanted, but they do work out
