AA, What you thought it would be. What is was.

There are a zillion misconceptions of what people think AA is and what it actually is. Many are terrified to walk through the doors of AA because of these fears. Curious about peoples preceived fears before they went to a meeting and once they had attended what the reality was.

My biggest one was. I am a special alcoholic. I have a job, a house, a wife, never been arrested. Anyone at an AA meeting lives under a bridge and drinks out of a paper bag. I expected a bunch of stinky old men in trench coats. I WAS SO WONG!

I thought it was a cult with a bunch of weirdos in it.

A DUI brought me into the rooms and it was the best thing that could have happened. The people I thought were weirdos are my friends now and I have a place that is safe to go.

I thought the most I would get out of it is a way to not drink. Boy was I wrong. It is sooooo much more. Thank God for that! Just not drinking never worked for me.
