How to tell the Family

I picked up my white chip on August 31, 2012. I am still very new to the program and still not sure of alot of things. I told everyone in my immediate family except my dad. I am very unsure of what to say or how to approach him. He is a Problem drinker and I am unsure of his response. I am afaid that if I do not tell him he will hear it from someone else. I just don't know how to and it is giving me the worst anxiety. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to SR and congrats on being off to a good start. Sooner you tell your dad, sooner you can stop worrying about it. Hard to say best way to do it not knowing him, but if you're honest and low key it may open the door for him to think about recovery too. Good luck!

Hi and welcome newgirl914 :)

It's a little hard for us to recommend anything cos we don't know your dad or what your relationship is like.

I was just up front and honest. That was the best way for me to go.
Others find it's best not to say anything for a while.

Regardless, I'm really glad you've joined us - you'll find a lot of support here :)

Do you know why you're afraid of telling him?
