Soberbrah,
Congrats on getting into rehab. Regarding poker, what I can tell you after playing for almost 10 years now, is that poker can be really unfair and the swings day to day can be crazy. I've played my fair share of live poker, and luck plays a huge factor in tournaments where you aren't getting dealt many hands and the blinds go up quick.
The only time I've noticed skill involved is where I played thousands of hands online and could take advantage of weaker players quicker. When you play poker in Vegas, you see maybe 30 hands an hour, so basically it would probably take you atleast a month for any skill to pay off.
If you are gonna go play in Vegas, good luck. I hope you are one of the few who hit a hot streak and never look back.

This just isn't true
I've played tons and tons of live poker and yes you need cards but skill plays a massive role, lol it takes skill and discipline to acknowledge when your not getting good hands, and not to get your money in bad

Nah because I'm not from around here do they assume I'm going home I think
I'm just curious why you haven't said anything about your plan to the professionals at the treatment center? Worried about what the reaction will be?
I would at least bring it up and at the very least take in mind their advice in that. You are going to do what you're going to do anyway. Keep in mind the professionals do see thousands of cases a year and they generally do know what they are talking about.

Just curious where you are going to school in January? Could you go to that location so that you are lined up with your meetings, have gotten to know some sober people, maybe even lined up a sponsor? That way you can focus on your school stuff and already have a network lined up.

You think they weren't necessary because you know what they will say?
You snuck your phone into your rehab facility, you let them assume things that aren't true about you going back home, and you don't tell them you are going to go to Vegas after your rehab.
You may identify with the BB, but I haven't read anyone's story that is "guaranteed" "because of their higher power n sht brah."
I might would reevaluate my plan, and try to look at real long term options instead of short term.
Just my 2 cents.
soberbrah -- I agree with what everyone said... remember that drinking is only a symptom of acholoism... you can take the addiction and apply it to anything. Just becareful with the gambling. This is YOUR walk to soberity noone elses.. Good luck!
