trying to get into detox

Hi everyone.

I'm a young woman that's trying to get into the detox center in my community. I feel like this is an important step for me. I am getting my bike back tomorrow, so I can bike/bus it to AA and possibly NA meetings. I only have two days sober from alcohol, and I smoked weed today and took a muscle relaxer. The detox has been hard to get into because there are so many people that are waiting. You have to show up morning after morning at 8am to get a spot. I definitely want to keep trying. I feel like I need 5-10 days away from the world outside to even begin to start thinking straight again.

Hopefully I can get in soon.

I'm happy that you are taking steps towards recovery! Keep trying to get into the detox center, it is unfortunate that you have to go each day to try to get a spot. Have you consider what your plan will be if you finish detoxing before you can get into the program?

Keep moving forward! AA/NA meetings are always a good idea

It sounds like you have a good plan even though the detox is hard to get in to. If you believe it will help you, then persevere and you'll get a spot.

And, keep posting here, if you can.

I started out with a jump start from a 7day in hospital detox. You keep taking care from yourself.

welcome angelx!

I hope you get a spot soon. Glad you found us in the meantime - we know how hard it is, especially at first. With the right help/support though, you can do it - and you'll be so glad you did!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I went again this morning to get into detox and was turned away. There were so many people there, and the ones who did get in had been trying longer than me. I immediately started bawling and now I'm in a coffee shop crying. I feel paralyzed. I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Keep trying, angelx. In the meantime, take care of yourself and try not to do anything too major before getting that detox spot.

Let us know how it goes!

Great step, keep knocking on that door...

And I hope you get in soon, I dont know where you live, but it is getting cold out here. So the detox and free rehab centers really fill up...

Update! It's been well over a week since I got out of detox and I am still sober. My job really picked up so I was able to make a lot of money after getting out these past two weeks, I'm happy with that.

I'm new here, and just read this thread and your struggle to get into detox.

Congrats on your sober time!
