What a great thread. This highlights the pivotal point of the drunk who has hit rock bottom and needs to believe in that thing that will get them to try. Whether AA/ADVRT/Smart/SR, or the poor SOB at the bar crying..what's that one thing any random person could say?

"One day at a time."
That one really hit home for me. Keep the focus short, on the now, on the reachable goals. Don't make a mountain that is the future. Celebrate small victories. I was able to infer all of these things from that one simple statement and realize the value of it.

Serenity Prayer
GOD, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living ONE DAY AT A TIME; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
