Addiction songs Hi everyone, I've not posted for a while, How are you all? Well I hope. I've recently been listening to a lot of songs and reading a lot of books on addiction. The song toy soldiers by Martika is very inspirational. Here is a link to it. YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. Here is also a link to what other peoples thoughts are about the lyrics to the song. SongMeanings Mobile Does anybody else have any favourite inspirational songs? Its very very sad of me I know, but I am bored. :rotfxko Bruno. |
Try "That Wasn't Me" by Brandi Carlile. Written from the perspective of the recovering addict. Inspiration was from a family member. Not to mention - she can teach any cold heart to feel. |
I don't want to inflict my musical taste on anyone here Bruno ;) How's things going? D |
I agree Bruno that the song is inspirational and right on point. I loved the song when it first came out. I was a junior in college and in my 4th year of being addicted to alcohol (and a little addicted to a girl who kinda looked like Martika). I sure wish that the meaning of the song and the messages of addiction had more meaning for me back then rather than waiting another 23 years to have the strength to break free of mine. Good post, it brings back lots of memories. |
There's a whole thread (actually 2) on addiction songs in the recovery thread: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-part-2-a.html |
There are many great songs, but the one that first comes to my mind is Merle Haggard/Willie Nelson's Reasons to Quit. Maybe there's also a list here of movies about alcoholism/addiction? So many good ones. Days of Wine and Roses, Requiem for a Dream, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf... |
Can't think of addiction songs right off the top of my head, but the movie Crazy Heart starring Jeff Bridges hit me like a ton of bricks. |
Oh, wait- there's the obvious one: Clean by Depeche Mode. |
This one has always given me shivers and made me reflect on alcoholism (very temporarily anyway!) Dido - Don't Leave Home - YouTube Like a ghost don't need a key Your best friend I've come to be Please don't think of getting up for me You don't even need to speak When I've been here for just one day You'll already miss me when I go away So close the blinds and shut the door You won't need other friends anymore Oh don't leave home, oh don't leave home And if you're cold, I'll keep you warm If you're low, just hold on 'cause I will be your safety Oh don't leave home And I arrived when you were weak I'll make you weaker, like a child Now all your love you give to me When your heart is all I need Oh don't leave home, oh don't leave home And if you're cold, I'll keep you warm If you're low, just hold on 'cause I will be your safety Oh don't leave home Oh how quiet, quiet the world can be When it's just you and little me Everything is clear, everything is new So you won't be leaving will you And if you're cold, I'll keep you warm And if you're low, just hold on 'cause I will be your safety Oh don't leave home Read more at Don't Leave Home Lyric Meaning - Dido Meanings |
I can't post the links yet, but the songs "Wise Up" by Aimee Mann Life Is Beautifu by Sixx A.M. usually help me out on a bad day. |
"I love myself today" by bif naked. Fun punk pop song. I imagine the "you" in the song to be alcohol. I'm lookin' in the mirror and I like what I see: I've lost the fear & the horror that's been eating at me 'Cause being with you is like a hangman's noose I was living my life in dead man's shoes |
