Alcoholic on day 5
Greetings all. I just got out of a detox center and I am on day 5 without alcohol or cigarettes. I have been put on the patch for smoking, and it seems to be working quite well. I would say that the alcohol withdrawal is over, as the nurses assessed me and I was not showing any signs anymore. I'd like to attend a meeting at least once per week. How do I go about getting started here ? Thanks in advance.
Welcome to SR Toomanyideas
Well done on 5 days! I gave up smoking at the same time as drinking too and used patches for the first few weeks. It helped. Why not join the Class of October on this thread too, that may help along with the meetings x

Welcome to SR & good for you!
I recently quit smoking using the patches, they're great. One thing I'll say though, is that I used the electronic cigs for a while, and they were hard to stop using so try and stay away from them if you can!
Wishing you all the best.

Thanks everyone for the friendly welcoming messages.
I'll be sure to try my best to keep active on this site. I just bought another week's worth of patches, so I'm set for another week to control the nicotine cravings. I did use the electronic cigarette, but I found I became more addicted to nicotine using that, I practically used it all of the time, and when I returned to cigarettes I smoked much more of them in the run of a day. I notice myself drinking a bit more coffee than I did before. Every time I have a coffee I have a craving for a cigarette, and every night at 8:00-12:00 is when I get mild alcohol cravings. I just distract myself with video games, and it seems to work. Quite frankly, I'm disgusted with alcohol now because of all the thinking I have done. The black-outs, the immense wasting of money, the hangovers, the depression, etc... I could go on, I'm sure you can all relate to these things. I'll just be taking it one day at a time though. I have been told not to say "never", just "not today" every day.
