Thumbs up TOPIC: Planting In Recovery. Plant, Feed, Grow.

I'm Sharon and I'm an Alcoholic
traveling the road of recovery since 8-11-90.
Don't let the number of years sober scare
you because Im just one drink away from a
drunk if I decide I don't need a recovery
program to live my life upon. Each day sober
is just as important as the very first one.

Today in Baton Rouge the weather is absolutely
beautiful with a touch of Fall in the air. This is
the time of the year to plant new bulbs for favorite
flowers to bloom in the Spring. Preparing the
soil and placing that one of many bulbs in the
right spot to begin its journey to grow and be
nurtured into something so beautiful to be admired
next Spring.

Just like it is in recovery, we are like little bulbs
that need to be fed the right information to help
us grow into beautiful people we are meant to be.
Beautiful inside as well as out. Knowledge learned
about our addiction to drugs or alcohol is like
Miracle Grow in which we are fed daily to help
us grow strong and with good rich fellowship
we can stand strong against outside elements
that can kill us.

I find that planting is good theraphy in recovery
which allows me to reflect on my own recovery
and as I plant those little bulbs giving it what it
needs preparing it for the Spring, I can compare
it to my recovery and remind myself if Im doing
all I can on a daily bases to grow strong to produce
a beautiful person to be appreciated for yrs. to come.

Plant a seed or bulb in rich soil, feed it with Miracle
Grow, water it and watch it grow.

What are your experiences with planting and
growing flowers in your own garden?

I live in a community where the landscaping is taken care of and I can't touch it...I wish I could. But I do have some great potted plants...I'm in Florida so it's year round one season. I loved your post though Sharon...As usual!

I live near you, but I don't garden. My yard is for dogs to race in, nothing more. But it's a good post!

I can plant if I want but the soil is bad. So every year I try to plant a pot garden. Well... I mean a garden in pots.

I usually do tomoates and peppers and various herbs. I do we'll with everything but the tomatoes. Every year I try. Every year I kill them after getting my bumper crop of a tomato or two.

I try different things to nurture them. It's kind of a running joke now.

Oh well.... As in my recovery I will never give up on finding new ways to make it grow. It's all in the formula you apply.

Great post!

TOPIC: Planting In Recovery. Plant, Feed, Grow.

When I first saw your topic I thought it referred to sobering up......

Plant myself in AA, feed on the 12 Steps and grow in sobriety.

My first thought was "I have to remember to stay planted !!"

All the best, Sharon.

Thanks guys.....and yes Bob that is it as well
as planting in your garden.

When Im doing whatever im doing during the
day, such as gardening, mowing the lawn, etc,
i try to think of similarities it has with recovery.
Just like I did with planting bulbs in my garden.

Mowing the lawn gives me time to slow down
my steps to push the mower and thus can say
some prayers I memorized or think of all the
things in life to be grateful for. Or, like we r
taught about keeping our side of the street
cleaned in recovery, which mean not to take
others inventory, or minding my own business,
keeping a good inventory to live by.

Does that make sense?
