I've noticed a real change in SR lately
ITA.. I get upset when I hear ppl belittling others methods of dealing w/their issue.. just because you don't prescribe to it personally doesn't mean its bad.. We should all respect eachothers ways of dealing- regardless. Love to all!!!
I am totally guilty of this and I think it's a control freak thing that we think what we did is right/best... Everyone has to find their own path.
I agree with Mark75 though... I really needed some of those posts that gave me a swift kick up the arse. I think they shocked me into action. Especially when I was in a pit of despair.

((Fitz))) - I, too, have noticed a difference.
If it weren't for the people here, I wouldn't know anything about Buddhism, I wouldn't know anything about Native American beliefs. I would have been totally confused by the people who don't believe in God, as I do.
HOWEVER, thanks to the awesome people here, I "get" something from people with totally different backgrounds and beliefs. I am extremely grateful for that. I have taken a bit of this, a bit of that, and some of something else to build my recovery program. I would not have been able to do that if it weren't for people here.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Just in case some here might not know the story of the cracked pot, here it is:
A water bearer had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot
arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for
which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own
imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of
what it had been made to do.
After 2 yrs of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream." I am ashamed of myself, and I want to
apologize to you. I have been able to deliver only half my load because
this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts, " the pot said.
The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only
on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I
have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you've watered them.
For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate
the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be
this beauty to grace the house.
Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.
Blessed are the flexible, for they cannot be bent out of shape.
Blessings to ALL my crackpot friends.

My thread generated a lot of responses, very good ones. Guess I'll add one more.
Believe nothing on the faith of traditions,
even though they have been held in honor
for many generations and in diverse places.
Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it.
Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past.
Do not believe what you yourself have imagined,
persuading yourself that a God inspires you.
Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests.
After examination, believe what you yourself have tested
and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

I guess I am always looking to take pieces and the best from any program or even good ideas or what worked for someone who did not use a program.
I will comment on appropriate threads if someone is using some of my programs/ideas and love to hear of success and share as I can what I have heard or done that might be helpful
All I know is I don't think there is any perfect anything be it a program of recovery , programs on TV , or programs on my computer for that matter. I think what matters most is someone's work towards a better life for themselves by the means they choose versus playing my program is better than yours or saying your won't work which implies only mine works. Hogwash. That's like a child saying my dad can beat up your dad .
I go to AA and I go to Smart Recovery and I take pieces of each to help me out. I see people sober and clean in both these programs so clearly different things work for different people.
Live and let live and support each other. What we all have in common is a whole lot more than the differences between how we heal. We have one common foe , our drink or drug of choice. I am quite sure addiction loves a **** party over how to defeat it.
