I am not bad in social situations anymore,I used to be painfully shy but not anymore but I tend to keep myself to myself I am not one for having 100's of friends and being at every single social gathering Id much rather take the dog for a long walk or go for a good drive by myself.

I have to agree.. If i looked at something that I could see from every angle... and that thing was sobriety... it is the only thing I know.. or am focused on... that would not change. Hi or lo... left or right... up or down. Its the same.

That's why we are here.

Sorry to be so sappy but its a truth.

Being a only child I learned at a young age to enterain myself..

And also just love being social ergo, if nothing else thats why I go to a meeting daily just to socialize...

Enjoy your Sunday all..

I've always been both. I remember being a shy kid but always wanting to be with other kids. Always loved to read, yet was always organizing clubs at school. Back and forth, comfortable with both sides.

Now I feel peopled out, but it's mostly because I have to take care of my elderly mom and work a lot in a social job. I rarely get my own space and I miss it. I would go stir crazy if I spent too much time with the introvert side, but a balance is great!

Innie all the way when sober.

Outtie when drunk.

It causes issues in my relationship since I react so differently sober.

Definitely an innie. I am a sociable person and love being with other people but I really need that time to myself to feel okay x

Drinking made me more extrovert but eventually made it harder to socialise because I just wanted to be drinking all the time. Now I can concentrate on just enjoying being in a social situation rather than checking to see who's ready for another drink!

And being at home alone is so much better sober because at least I actually now get to do the stuff I want to do because I'm not drinking.

Basically both my innie and outie parts are better sober

Innie. My initial attraction to alcohol was so that I could be more outgoing in social situations.

I didn't think belly buttons lol. I thought Are you in the closet or out of the closet with drinking....Anyway, I'm an innie.

After reading through this, seems that most of us are. I'm sure there is a connection between addiction and being and 'innie'.

Depends on the setting, but mostly shy... Unless its my turf, like the beach, then I am the outie.

Since being sober I have turned more innie. Drinking I was a bit of both...But I also realize, in order to survive in the real world, I need to work on my outie skills.

Definitely an "innie." I LOATHE spending too much time out and about (unless it's somewhere remote where there aren't other people). My husband is the same way. I like to come home after a day at work and just unwind without a lot of outside distractions.

Wow - look at all the innies. I find this thread very interesting. I'm both. I love my "me time". Time to do things with no interruptions. I work mostly from home and outside of the home for about 8 hours each week. So, my working from home time is mine.

Funny, how when I'm in "innie" mode, and if someone shows up I grumble under my breath....but then, after they leave, I'm so glad they stopped to visit because people bring great joy to my life.

I also love being an outie for the reason above, I love to meet new people, hear of their experiences, learn from them. We host very large family/friend parties every couple years anywhere from 50-100 people. And I love the interaction with everyone. And believe it or not, that is not as big a drinking day for me as you would think. I enjoyed the time with sober eyes, and I had to, as it's a ton of work.

Thanks for the interesting thread. I loved everyone's responses.

Innie, innie, innie!

Grew up scared to say boo to a goose (still am really - geese can be vicious!). These days a little bit more comfortable in my skin, and do make an effort to speak up when I have something to say but it is an effort. I do believe my upbringing contributed to my extreme shyness and reluctance to be heard but I also believe these behaviours can be unlearned so I do practice being a bit of an outie occasionally.

Interesting how many of us are innies!

I function well in a public arena - I am a lawyer.

But, with my own time I am perfectly content to read a book, watch a true crime television show, take care of my chihuahua and cat, go jeeping on the farm, shoot guns, go for a long run, or go to a book store or a music store by myself.

I also like to lift weights, but I spend a lot of time with people I like at the gym, so it's usually not a solitary endeavor.

My wife has to be among people, so we frequently entertain or go out in public to events (dinner, ball games, shows, concertsl, etc.).

We are kind of like night and day in that respect, but we have a lot of fun together.

I regard the cell phone as a 21st century equivalent of a Biblical plague, while she regards it as a constant source of entertainment.

This is a good topic.

Can I cheat and say I don't think that I am either?

I am more of an existentialist :>
