Just saying hello!
Hi All,
I just sighned up to this site, I found it when I googled a question I had, I hread some threads anf thought it would be a cool site to be part of. I have had trouble over the years with quitting/starting again, like most of you, I'm sure. I tried AA, but it's not for me. I'm going to do it tis time, I just needed to get to a place where I say.."I've had enough", and I'm there now!!
I hope to become active in this site, it's what I've been looking for I think.

Hello and welcome to SR. Read around lots and talk as much as you like - it really does help.
Many people are helped by AA, but it isn't the only method available if you feel as though you need something tried and tested to help you with your sobriety. I use AVRT - it helped endlessly at the beginning. It teaches you to recognise your addictive wants from your real wants and also to listen to your addictive cravings and desires but not act upon them. It really was revolutionary to me. Some here also use SMART.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of you around the boards.
Believe in yourself and know that we are here if ever you need us.
All the best.

Welcome rufwrld
You'll find a lot of support here - a lot of different methods at play too, including non 12 step one, if that's what interests you - I'll be glad to provide some links if you're interested
Good to have you here

Thanks all for the welcome, this is a very big site and I'm just feeling my way around. Lots of info here, for sure. I'm not familiar with some of the abreviations; AVRT, SMART etc.....can anyone shed some light?
thanks.
thanks.

When I say I tried AA, I mean that I attended regular/daily meetings for four months, different venues, different people etc... I found that there was a little too much emphasis put on God, I believe in God, but not to that extent. I felt like many of the people in AA were just giving up one addiction, alcohol, for another addiction, God. I understand the higher power concept, but at the same time I don't think it's healthy to put all your woes on someone else, I am responsible for me.
I also felt that it was very cliquey. I'm saying it was terrible, I know it's very good for many people, just not my cup of tea!!

Thats great thank you,
I went into AA with no believe in any religion and still dont..
But I do believe in GOD " Good Orderly Direction".. I am sorry that you saw what you think was addiction transfer. And my higher person isnt someone else.. Its not a human being.. Its just a entity that trust me ..
And AA is the steps which has nothing to do with meetings.
So every sorry that it was terrible to simply be around fellow alcoholic's..
I hope whatever path you choose you work it as hard as you can. There are many options . And again Welcome aboard to SR this is a wonderful place you land on..

Welcome Ruf! You've found a great place where people really understand. I got sober after a lifetime of drinking after I found SR. I've never felt alone since joining, and that's made all the difference.
