Red face First AA meeting

I went to my first AA meeting today. I drove to the place, sat in my car and thought I was going to have a panic attack. I forced myself to get out anyway, and I am so glad I did. The people were amazing. I said that it was my first meeting and everyone told me what AA has done for them. I met some very interesting people, and the ladies in the group both approached me and made me feel comfortable. I am pretty close in age with one and I hope I run into her again.

I went to Half Price Books afterwards and bought myself a Big Book. I am so proud of myself today. Day 3 is going to be a great day.

Good for you Sara! I found AA to be a great help in my early sobriety too.

Beautiful...I said a prayer for you that you'd have the courage to go...I'm glad you did. You only have to go to a first meeting once. You keep going....You'll meet some good people. That's awesome. Study that book.

Goodonya JHM.....

You don't say where in TX you are, but there are lots of good AA meetings all over TX; here in Houston there are more than 2,000 meetings each and every day..........

Good job! I actually just got a list of meetings in my town and I'm going to try it out too! Anything is better than drinking.

What a great post! I'm so happy you found the courage to walk in. And it is not filled with men in dirty raincoats (that's what I thought!)
Next time get the courage to ask that woman for her number!

Sara,

Good Job! I remember the first meeting I went to, I sat in my car trying to talk myself out of going inside (I was having a panic attack), went in anyways and was glad I did!

Every meeting I go to I meet new and wonderful people. AA is such a great support system for me! I hope you reap the same benefits as so many have!

Awesome! Saved my life. I'm now to the point where I woke up today excited because I'm going to a meeting with my sponsor tonight. Big change from my first meetings. Good for you.

Way to go! I was similar , very nervous on my first meeting but soon found I could fit in easily. My problem was I went back out and well no need to tell what happened. Going back was simple and I wasn't nervous at all. Now I am in another 90 in 90 which will probably 100+ in 90 and its really helping me not only not drink but review a few other things that are troubling me.

Stay with it as I find meetings really help on those days when things are not going so well ( or going way to well to be real !).

Have a good 24

Glad to hear you stepped in! The meetings are my medicine!! Without them I know where it would lead me, so I 'keep coming back!'...
