Smile I did it!

I went to detox. Got out today. It was rough at first, I felt like crap, obviously. But I met alot of cool people, and the staff were really nice. I was so nervous when I first got there, but I settled in. We had group meetings, I got to connect with people with a common problem (whether it was alcohol or drugs), and best of all, I didn't drink (well, I COULDN'T drink) but I'm glad. I felt very tired and weak, shaky, on day 1 and 2, but I was soon feeling alot better. After I got home, something happened that really upset me and usually I would reach for a drink. I WANTED a drink, but I didn't do it. I just cried and then called a friend. Before I would have ran to the liquor store, but not this time. I chose to deal with the pain, rather than drown it. Tomorrow I have my first out-patient rehab appointment. I'm excited for the bad feelings to go away, and I finally have faith in myself.

Today I am proclaiming you the bravest person in the universe! I will do the same tomorrow and every day thereafter as you keep walking down this path. To take the measures you have and have the power to confront that first temptation takes an enormous amount of courage. Hopefully you have inspired a lot of people on the boards today to do the same!

Congrats!, It is wonderful that you reached out to another when you were in pain. Build an army of people that you can talk to. For me AA helped me build this army. I have so many sober friends I can not count them all and each one will be happy to talk to me even if it is 3:00 in the morning

Talking Thank u!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I'm on day 2 out of detox and I haven't drank. It has not been easy *surprise!* lol...but I'm learning to deal. Oh, and I went to my out-patient appointment today :-) Glad I made it, instead of cancelling because I was hungover :-/....It feels really good to finally have something positive to tell you guys. More to come! Thanks :-D

Carly,

Congratulations! Glad you are here.
I don't know if you have been to out patient before or not. I have been going for 2 weeks, have 4 to go. I'm so glad I made the choice to go. It is really helping me get through this first tough month. My main goal at this early stage of my sobriety is..."Not to take that first drink". I'm keeping so busy with recovery, (Rehab, AA, SR, The big Book, what ever I can get my hands on.), that I haven't had the time to think about drinking. So far it's working!

Good job working out the problem, dealing with the pain and calling a friend! Sounds like you are well on your way to sobriety. Keep it up...we're all rooting for you!
