I always thought I didn't. But I realized after my last drink and the next morning, my hands shook. It was hard to type and I had to keep re-typing. I also felt very shaky all over, weird.

This was so new. I realized that should be another reason on my list to stop. Obviously it progressed where it wasn't just mental, but also physical. It scared me.

I'm doing well now. Lots of water, tea and vitamins. But it scared me to realize I was so used to feeling like crap in the morning, I didn't realize how far I was progressing as an alcoholic.

I thank God daily for SR.

I remember driving to work and my knees would shake so bad. Couldn't even write my signature - or eat a bowl of soup. So glad those days are gone.

I sometimes felt like that but figured it was just a hangover. I was drunk maybe 2-3 times a week at the most. Is a hangover a minor withdrawal?

Thank you. It may have been the hangover. But it just recently started. That's what alerted me to "whoa, something isn't right here" But thank God I won't deal with that again......

I have heard that a hangover for an alcoholic is withdrawal, which is why drinking again takes it away.

I might be wrong but I think a hangover is mostly just the repercussions from the dehydration and strain on the digestive system. Withdrawals are from a burgeoning (or full-flowering) physical addiction.

There's definitely a gray zone between them. I think the shakes, especially like you described them, are closer to withdrawals than a simple hangover. I'm not a doctor though. Glad you're feeling better.

I think that happens to a lot of us, we're just so used to feeling crappy we don't realize the toll it's taking overall. My friend is learning that lesson the hard way right now and is still in denial-scary stuff.

No the shaking and sweating of a hangover are withdrawal. The headache and stomachaches poisoning and dehydration.

The physical withdrawal symptoms are progressive. It's like a switch has been flipped inside you and there's no going back. The only way I know of to deal with it, is to stay sober, one day at a time.

oh yea, that's withdrawal alright, that's why a drink first thing in the am puts an alkie back to a good place (percieved good place i should say) my doc has prescribed valium for my anxiety for 13 years, but it works like a charm for withdrawal, if you read the label, it's what is used for, they use it in detox sometimes I think, I use it a lot, but hopefully that will change, nice work..

I, too, was in shock I 'withdrew'. I mean, ya, I was drinking a ton, but to actually feel my body going through an *actual* withdrawal was a major wake up call. Glad that's over! Keep strong!!
