I lay down my ego
I lay down my ego
Ego.... That sometimes in control and sometimes out of control part of me.
Telling me whats right. Since its never wrong.
Telling me where to go. Because he knows all the best places.
Showing me how to get by in this life. Since I have little a clue.
I don't mourn alcohol and drugs. I mourn the loss of self control I must now give up in order to survive.
I will miss being able to go here or there willfully and lightly.
Have fun with this kind of person or that.
I will miss knowing it all.
In return for this surrender, I will breath new life where it had been long dead.
I will discover what I did not know.... Because I never knew.
Today is it. I lay down my ego. I kiss it good bye and send it on its way. To wherever egos go to die.
Today I am sober.

vall what a nice vision I got from that. Yes.
I realized over the last week that I need to surrender a bit more. Let controlling thoughts go so other more positive ones can get on.
Overall I feel great today for this "laying down my ego" approach.

Ken, your posts are always so poetic, love it.
Maybe you are really saying good bye to your alter ego? Isn't that one the "bad guy" and the rebel? Maybe by doing this your real ego and sense of self can get further developed...
Loss of control is really scary but can be very freeing and exciting.Think roller coaster ride. Less control means more possibilities!

Laying down of ego is one of the most liberating things i've tried to do . It can make you free from the fetters and woes of struggle and strife and make you content and even happy with what you have right now.
This dosn't mean passiveness in life, rather it frees you to enjoy now whilst keeping your eye to the future . Life to me, seems more to be about the enjoyment and satiety of the journey rather than the final destination , drink and drugs just speed one to the final destination in a binge of gluttony .
Bestwishes, M

My ego is something I am struggling with a lot this past week. I am so tired of being more miserable sober than when I was drinking. I realize it is probably because my ego and pride are getting in the way of my recovery. I am going to work on it this week.
Thanks for the great post.
