Sober Mom

My son's 6th birthday is Monday. I want to give him a sober mom. Just posting to put my intention out there.

You deserve to feel the joy of really being there for him. It is an awesome feeling to really connect with our kids. Without guilt, shame or hangover.
You can do this. I'm sending you a big hug xx

I want to feel good about myself and my parenting. My drug problem is the only thing in the way. Otherwise I'm a great mom.

Thanks for your reply Sapling. You made me smile.

That's awesome! You're a great Mother and you will find sobriety makes everything so much better... I'm actually contemplating going back to school at 42...

Voyager, You CAN do it.. I know exactly where you are coming from. Yesterday was my youngest child's 7th birthday. Every time I got the urge to drink, I gave my kids a big hug to remind me why I was staying sober.. When that wasnt enough to combat the urges, I jumped on here or called a friend. Its not going to be easy, nothing worth having is ever easy to come by. You have all of us here on SR for support & cheering you on!! I am proud of you!!!!!

You can do this, Mom! Being sober is an action, not a think or an intent, so just do it for that young man who needs you present!!

Big hugs!
You can do this!!

Love & hugs,

Voyager,

You could give him anything in the world, but nothing would be better for him to have than a sober Mom. And nothing would be better for you than to be a sober Mom.

I wish you the very best.

Well, that's the coolest thing I've read all day. Awesome.

My daughter was 6 when I quit. She's 8 now. She recently appeared surprised to hear that I ever drank at all.

Now is always the right time to quit... but I'd say you have especially good timing.

Voyager I wish I was strong enough to quit when my younger son was six. Now he is ten and rolled his eyes when I announced my intention to stop drinking. I want to earn his trust and respect again. Congratulations on focusing on the most important things in life and staying strong!

Well done! You can do it!

I am ashamed to say I have been drunk most nights for almost a year ! My kids are used to seeing Beer, Wine and Cider around the house. And a hungover grumpy mummy
