Taking Back Control

When my drinking starts at 8:30 p.m. most nights, and I get home around 5:30, there's not a lot of time for taking care of business. And so my environment suffers for it. Things begin to get disorganized and unclean, which in turn fuels the despondency. The place is in perpetual shadow because the blinds are always drawn, as it feels somehow less reprehensible to be drinking in dimly lit circumstances and a cheery, sunny day leaves me feeling more guilty.

But I find it's extremely satisfying to turn this on its head. When I take a day and clean my place, and I throw open all of the blinds to let the place bathe in sunlight (like today), I feel like I have taken back control of my environment, and in many ways myself.

I cleaned last Monday, and the place is still in good shape. It's a beautiful day. I have a ribeye tempering, a grill waiting, and some red bell peppers yearning for roasting.

Just a thought for the day.

Enjoy your dinner! I just bought red peppers today to grill this week.

I know what you mean, Jakk. I lived for too many years like a mole - curtains drawn, didn't answer the door or phone. I can't believe I was once intimidated and annoyed by the morning sun, smell of coffee, people stirring. It's lovely to let the light shine on our lives.

Keep turning things on their head. :)

My place is a mess right now. Thanks for the idea!
