Day 1 and Self-loathing
I hate myself so much for what I've become and what has transpired as of late that I pause to share too many details yet...I will, in time, but the shame is too great for me to put it out there right now.
All I know is that enough is enough and I have to get sober, period. I hope to meet new friends here and help to encourage one another in sobriety.
Thank you for understanding my brevity and I wish you all the best outcomes in this difficult journey...

You will meet a lot of wise people on here. The wisdom comes from having walked your path before, and learning the steps to stay on the path. No one has to do this alone. It's the beauty of one alcoholic/user helping another.

Welcome DeepBreath! You will find a lot of support here. I'm new too...have shared some of my story, but not all. I'm still a work in progress. Have to say that it feels good to know that I'm not alone. There are a lot of success stories...hoping someday you & I will be one of them.
Best wishes to you!!

I just want to encourage you, as well as comfort you on your guilt .. you sound like you are struggling with a lot of it, and I completely relate.. Not a day goes by that I don't feel the shame of things Ive said and done in relation to my drinking.. but those who truly know and love you also know the real you, and that you had a sickness, just as much as someone with cancer does.. I know its hard, but try to forgive yourself.. you are worlds better than lots of people I have known who had an issue with this.. because you are one of the ones of us who chose to recognize they had a problem and decided to get healthy. A lot of people are too selfish and self-servingto do what we are doing. You are a good person just for realizing the change you wanted to make..

Hi DeepBreath!
Feel for you and completely understand.
Since I have been on this journey of a new life, the people who have chosen recovery from this awful illness that we have, are for me, some of the most wonderful, inspiring and courageous people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting - people like you!
I am part of the AA felllowship which I love. Not only do I have the support of the fellowship, I have a sponsor who is my mentor, and the 12 step recovery programme. AA gives me practical tools to put into everyday life without booze and it works.
Be gentle on yourself. Try not to look at the past or project into the future just now. Try to focus on one day at a time. One day without picking up that first drink....
Good luck and take life a step at a time. You'll do this!
