If it was easy everyone would be doing it.
Hello I'm rather new to the forums and really would like some help as I am really a hard binge drinker. I don't drink at all during the week but come Thursday I start to drink and most of the time its cause I'm bored. I tried once and cut down my drinking to just say a Saturday or Friday but I have yet again relapsed to drinking Thursday through Saturday. I generally have a social anxiety and believe drinking will make me more likeable so I just want to quit drinking and be able to enjoy myself without having to drink alcohol. All this week will be easy for me but I know Thursday will be the hardest test for me. I just need some help for I truly want to not have to rely on alcohol to have fun. Just a little background info on me I'm 27 served in the military for 5 years and currently in my sophomore year of college. Again thanks and just happy to get this off of my chest and feel like this forum will be the best thing for me.
Welcome, Louie! Glad you found your way here. I was more of the everyday kinda drinker rather than a binger, although my everyday quantities were more and more binge-like as time went by.
Still, it's the same story--we want to be free from something we know is hurting us in every possible way. And you will find many like-minded and helpful people here who know we are taking first steps.
Thank you for your military service.

I had a heavy schedule on fridays and I don't like to drink two days in a row so I never drank on thursdays. I was a friday/saturday night binger and had started getting into the habit of binging tuesday night or wednesday during the day (I had wednesday free and thursday light schedule).
In my case, the true cravings started in week two. I would sometimes go a week without drinking just because I wouldn't feel like it, so my brain would only start telling me that it's time for brews if it didn't get destroyed for over a week.
If I got past week two, I only had to deal with sporadic "a beer would hit the spot" thoughts and the occasional "this is stupid, I'm not that bad" thoughts. The trick is to duck those.
Anyway, your mileage may vary but since we have similar drinking habits, you might have similar reactions. Best of luck.
P.S.

Yeah I used to not see it as a problem but I realize now that every time I drink I just don't drink a beer or two I keep on until I'm drunk. It will be a very tough test I know to stop drinking but I just need to stay strong. Thanks for the support.

Learning to break the dependency on a
controled substance of any kind is not
easy but can be broken with some sort
of recovery program incorperated in ones
everyday life. While many are still struggling
with addiction, there are many who are
clean and sober with this recovery program
everyday for many years.
Yes, one can learn to be happy without
drugs or alcohol in their lives. I know because
I am living sober in recovery today and for the past
22 yrs.
I was educated about my alcoholism and how
it affect me as well as how it affected others
around me. Tools and knowledge of a recovery
program to incorperate in my everyday affairs
has allowed me to be free from the desire to
drink today. Life today is a gift I treasure and
I protect my sobriety with the tools and knowedge
I was handed yrs ago to carry with me each
day I wake up.
It can be for you too.
