Day 1 again

So I've been slipping lately. Not too badly at first, but more and more often. Yesterday was four days in a row, and I'm seeing that dark spiral ahead again. I know where it leads.

This 'moderation' thing is not for me - it always ends in the same place. I know there are some people who can moderate their drinking, but for me it always starts at once a week, then twice, and eventually every day.

Today is Day 1 again.

Welcome Darren

I'm fairly new, day 9, (again).

Moderation has never worked for me either. I know now it's all or nothing, so 'all' is what it's going to be! Falling down isn't failing, staying down is failing.

good luck, you can do it.

Big hgs

Gxx

hi Darren ,

i'm powerless over alcohol once it goes inside my body , bad things may or maynot happen , the dice roll ...
total abstinance has been the only way for me to cope and then using lot's of methods to learn how to deal with lifes up's and downs without turning to drink for solace or comfort .

day 1

Bestwishes, M

Being free of that battle is a big relief Darren, glad you've decided to abandon moderation x

Moderation never worked for me either. It just led back to that dark place. Time to move forward now. You can do this x

I'm an extreme drinker. It's all or nothing. I drank $10 of beer each day over the last 2 days. If I were to continue that trend, I would spend over $300 in a month on self destruction.

Today is my Day 1. I have got to strengthen my resolve today.

I'm an all or nothing drinker too. I'm either sober or totally wasted. There is no pretence at drinking socially for me, not any more.
I should have put all that in the past tense as I haven't had a drink for 3 months. You can do this xx

In all honesty...I haven't met an alcoholic yet that could make this work...And I've been around a lot of them. The only suggestion I can give you....As a recovered hopeless chronic alcoholic is to find a recovery program....I don't care which one....I don't get any commission on which one you pick...It's not important to me....I would pick one that you see has worked for people....That's how I picked mine....And make that your new full time job....Read what you have to read...Study it....Go where you have to go and do what you have to do...This isn't a fricken game here...It came close enough to killing me that I have a real dislike for it....My advice...Pick the path you want to take and follow it...Whether it's AA...AVRT...SMART...Lifering...Whatever....Pick one and work it till it works...If it doesn't....Keep trying them till one does...I wish you the best...It's going to take some work....But I think your life is worth that.

I tried to moderate for years.. seems as though a lot of us have the same results. Once I finally surrendered to the fact that I could never ever drink again, it was really such a relief. Glad you're here!

I am on day 1 again as well. I am so sick of this cycle. I can moderate for a few months - then I go and get drunk. It is making me so crazy. Good luck and know you are not alone.

Are you attending AA meetings?

I couldn't quit and stay quit until I joined Alcoholics Anonymous.

All the best.

Today's my new day 1 as well, Darren. I was here a few weeks ago and woke up yesterday to realize I stayed two days sober, and the rest was a cloudy, drunk mess. There's still beer in the fridge, and I can't bring myself to throw it out. That's all I'm afraid of.
Good luck to you

I relapsed recently, and I had to spend Day 1 in a psychiatric hospital. Once I start, a trip to detox is inevitable. Good luck with your recovery efforts.
