recovery mood change
recovery mood change
Hi there
I am an alcoholic and sober now for 6 months. I regularly attend AA meetings which have been an unbelieveable source of support. The fellowship is a great thing for me but recently I have felt really down and tired. I don't have an urge to drink but this feeling is making me feel really uneasy and a bit fearful. Not aure where I'm going wrong at the moment.

Hello... You may need to see your medical doctor, maybe something is going on in the body that you are not aware of. But don't be fearfull of it-just deal with it like you do your sobriety-head on. If you think it's a mental health issue, get that type of help.. AA will help with the sobriety, everything else seek a professional.. You will be just fine and keep in touch with your sponsor...
Hi Nicky
you may not be going wrong at all - I think sometimes we have an unrealistic expectation that every day needs to be sunshine-filled, and we can't feel anything less than blissful cos that's a 'failure'.
In my experience life continues to have it's ups and downs...but if I'm down it's usually for a definite reason and it's generally only for a day or two.
If you can't find a reason, or if this is a long standing feeling perhaps a talk with your Dr might help?
If, one the other hand, you feel it's an AA or step based problem, talking to your sponsor will no doubt help too

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I have spoken with my sponsor and she was a great help as you say not every day can be sunshine filled. Hope my mood lifts, just keep getting loads of meetings in at the moment.
Thank you all for such a quick response and the support is much appreciated.

Congratulations on the six months!
In regard to feeling down: definitely be mindful of the physical stuff. Eating well, sleeping well, exercise: all very important. Beyond that, I find that sometimes when I'm feeling down I need to give myself a bit of a push, make myself do something I don't really feel like doing, like being social, doing something constructive. How are you feeling today?

Doing great today. Had a really nice meeting this morning with my home group. It is true what you say, sometimes you have to force yourself to do things and that's one of the things I did the other day. Hubby, me and kids all out for the day was such an effort but came home feeling lighter.
On the whole feeling much better this week.
Thank you for your comments.
