Hi,

Lurked a bit yesterday reading so many inspirational stories. Today is day 2 for me, thankfully haven't hit rock bottom (yet) but aware I am drinking too much too regularly and have tried and failed to cut down too many times to mention so am going sober. Think I have gotten away with drinking the better part of a bottle of wine (almost) every night because I have remained relatively functional - or so I thought, my work is unaffected and mostly so is my relationship but I realise now how much I have been neglecting my health, my home, my other relationships (I speak to my brothers probably only a couple of times a year). It's time to start living with a clear head, I think I know why I started drowning my sorrows in a bottle a decade ago but that was many moons ago and it's time I took responsibility for my actions as an adult.

Yesterday was a good first day, I cooked three healthy(ish) meals, managed to get some studying done (I am doing a degree at night school and this has also been seriously neglected). When I got a craving I had a green tea, didn't quite hit the spot but the craving did pass. Had a long bubble bath (with my study notes). Booked a trip to Italy for October but instead being all "woohoo I'm off to Italy" my first thought was "was that really a good idea? am I going to be able to do Italy without the red wine??". Sure sign I do have a problem and hoping I'll be almost two months sober by then.

Also managed to say no when my partner had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner (I haven't told him I've quit yet - will do but after so many failed attempts to cut down I want to get at least a week under my belt first)

Anywhos , thanks to everyone who has shared their stories on here - I have really taken inspiration from your successes, x

Welcome Veggiejojo!

Congratulations on making this day 1! Stay close to the forum during these first days - it really helps! The mental stuff doesn't go away immediately after we put the drink down, so be patient with yourself and know that it will get easier as you go. Glad you're here!
