What options are available if trying to quit cold turkey is not feasible?
 

Hello to all. New to the site. Spent the first couple of weeks just reading posts & getting some comfort in that there are others with similar problems. In short, I have what I like to call a dependency (but I wouldn't have a problem calling it an addiction) to percocet, cocaine & marijuana going on a couple yrs now. If that's not bad enough, being high induces me to smoke & drink which then further worsens the situation. I've tried quiting cold turkey so many times, but the longest I've gone is one day where I'm just a zombie at home so basically I realize that going cold turkey is not an option for me & would like to see what others have tried that they would be willing to share. For example, what about support groups, rehab centers, psychiatrists, etc? I'm open to anything at this point. If it makes sense to cut one thing out at a time, it would start with the percocets. It's the 1st thing I reach for in the morning to get me going & everything starts with that. Thx for checking out my posts & appreciate any suggestions one can make.

I think if it were me, I'd want to talk to a doctor who specializes in addiction. There are a couple docs like that in my small town, so there should be some around NYC.happyface:

Welcome and it is great to have support ftf support. So start going to meetings they won't hurt. Percocet will have physical withdrawl symptoms like heroin, I don't know hiw much you take and my suggestion is go to a detox and that will help with a safe structure for withdrawl, and possibly some help with the withdrawls.

Seeing a substanc eabuse counselor will be helpful for your journey and go to meetings will enhance your life ten-fold! When I started my journey into sobriety I went to 12 step meetings and also seen a counselor, this helped me alot. Be careful with yourself don't mess around with this on your own, you seem ready to take some action or you wouldn't have typed here, way to go!

I'll second the motion to talk to an addiction specialist.

You're really rolling the dice combining two central nervous system depressants with a stimulant. Last month, I had a kid across the street OD while speedballing, and he was lucky that he pulled through. It was more than 12 hours in the ER before he was out of the woods.

For me it was frightening to see that comatose body. My legs were like rubber and I worried about that kid all night.

Detox center I would recommend .. There are many even if you have no funds. :)
