Talking New to site

Hello,

Today I have been sober for 3 weeks. I joined this site because AA is not for me, but I do need support. I need help navigating this site. I have never been in a chat room and I want to get the most out of using this site. I have lots of questions to ask others who are going thru this so as to find some solutions to the things that are difficult for me. Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Christine

Congrats on 3 weeks.

Curious to know why you say AA isn't for you?

If not AA try SMART, AVRT or one of the other programs. It's my considered opinion that you need some sort of structured recovery program. My opinion is that SR is excellent but it can only go so far, although I'm sure that there are some here that have a different opinion on this.

welcome Sober1957

I've moved yr thread to our Newcomers forum - more response here

This is not the chat room - it's just a forum - if you want to chat in real time you'll find our chat room portal (marked as Chat room) is on the right hand side edge of the big blue tool bar that runs across the top of every page

just hit the downward arrow and 'enter chat room'

any other questions just ask

Welcome, Christine!

There are many of us here who do not use AA for recovery. So, take a look around and read and post.

I thought AA wasn't for me also. I used to think "I am not like those people!".

Now, I realize that I am JUST LIKE THOSE PEOPLE!! I am laughing at myself right now because of those thought I use to have I my first couple of months.
I finally surrendered my own EGO and became one with the will of my Higher Power. It has brought me such amazing success.

Welcome aboard

Thats okay if you think AA isnt for you, I know I personally didnt know if it was or wasnt . Nor did I care , I just knew that my way just didnt work .. So I went.

And wouldnt be here to greet you without it. Steps and fellowship showed this alcoholic that there is a joyus fun life without drinking.

What ever you might choose please choose something.

Hi Sober1957, I have to remark on your username - are we cousins? You certainly look familiar.

Welcome to SR and to the team here, there is a lot of support here, just waiting for you.

I understand your feelings about your experiences already with recovery programs, and you are most certainly not alone. Fortunately there are lots of options, and one of them may well include having another look at AA.

We have a SR forum where recovery ideas that do not require 12 steps are discussed, and there are a few of them. Just go to our Secular Connections forum for discussion of AA alternatives.

Looking forward to hearing about you and your questions, glad you're here!
