Looking for help
Welcome to SR gilbert.
Really pleased you found this site. We have all been just where you are, and understand completely. Getting sober/clean is possible, it is absolutely the best thing you can do for yourself right now.
First of all, I don't know anything about you but we usually recommend seeking medical advice. Detoxing is a serious business so please make sure you do it safely.
SR is a fantastic place for advice on how to quit. There are different recovery methods, and I would recommend reading about them.
Keep posting, there will always be someone here to listen.
Good luck to you. This is a big step but your life will change and improve beyond all expectations. Stay close x

where do I start getting sober?
Admitting and wanting help. As Jeni said keep reading and posting.
Plus check out the chat room. I used that place 16 hours a day for my first 6 months. Still try to go in often. We are here to listen and give our own stories to share.
Welcome aboard.
Hi Gilbert, I'm sorry to hear you were arrested but glad to hear you're making some positive changes! Whatever it takes to get better, right? Have you tried to not drink or use before? There are a variety of programs but what I did was hang out here on SR for awhile and read stories of other people who reminded me of me, and asked for help on how to get better. The first advice is to not drink! Stay focused on what you truly want! After I gathered some courage, I went to some AA meetings, and that gave me a support system and a "program" to try to become sober. Now I'm exploring other programs like SMART recovery or Rational Recovery. Some people just read and meditate and make a personal plan of action. But not drinking/using is the key! Best wishes and please keep talking and reading here at SR because it really does help.

Today I am grateful for my last arrest. It took the 4th dui, to finally get the action to get sober.
We all get there in our own time, its what we do with it when we arrive.

I know it is scary. But we are here to help. Have you thought about following a program to stay sober?I go to AA . There are other routes too which members here follow. Being stuck in fear is understandable but moving forward will set you free xx
