This is me
Hi, I'd like to introduce myself. I am 29 years old and married living in upstate NY. My drinking started around the age of 26. I was with a very verbally abusive person. It seemed that the only way to ignore what he said was to drink. Eventually he cheated on me and left me, which I suppose is a blessing. I met a wonderful man and got married last year. While we dated my husband didn't notice the problem and I vehemently denied it. Now we both recognize I have a problem. I have tried going to meetings but a slight fear of rejection has made me wary of continuing them. I had one month of sobriety under my belt and then I relapsed recently. I'm trying but it doesn't seem to be working... so hopefully.. with taking one day at a time... I can make this happen.
I want to welcome you too. There are other ways to recover besides AA. Hope you will look into them.
That being said, you cite a "slight fear of rejection" (whatever that means) as the reason for not continuing. If you weigh the fear of rejection against what will happen if you don't get sober, seems to me that going to AA wins out. Perhaps you'll reconsider.
Plus, it's not the meetings that help you recover, it's working the 12 steps. Rejection isn't a component of the 12 steps.

Welcome UberNinja!
This is a great place! I've learned so much from everyone here and come here every day - it keeps me motivated! It really is hard to stay sober on our own, so don't get too down on yourself.
Glad you've joined us..... looking forward to sharing this journey with you!
