Happy Birthday! I waited two years to stop smoking, it was the hardest thing I every did. Every day I said "I'm not smoking today. Just today. If I want to buy a carton tomorrow ok, but not today". It was how I stopped drinking, the only way I could have handled it. I can relate to feeling bummed out on birthdays but it passes. What I had to learn was all feelings pass. You can go to an AA meeting, that helps. One of the most difficult emotions I faced was boredom. Before if I had a feeling, I drank. In fact I drank every day. It was also hard to ask for help.

Remember, you don't have to drink. Now you have options.

Happy birthday!

There's plenty of things you can do to feel better:

- Cook a lovely meal for your parents
- Make your parents cook you a lovely meal (haha!)
- Get your parents to show you around their area
- If you know the area already, revisit your old haunts
- If it rains, lock yourself in and listen to your favourite tracks
- If it's sunny, go for a walk/bike ride/car journey to your favourite spot
- Talk with your parents, truly and honestly. I cherish my conversations with my parents, as they are the greatest source of wisdom in this life.
- If all else fails, message me and we'll talk all night!

I'm sure you'll feel better in no time. Remember, you can do this! It's not so hard, and it's what you truly want. So just stick to your guns and abstain! Life will be so much better! You'll appreciate everything more, even the small things. Now go and enjoy your birthday with your parents

Happy birthday once again! Hugs and prayers from Laos!

Thank you for support. It was not very easy today. The title says that there was no booze. But actually the booze appeared and it was my favourite wine. I usually have a cigarette to lift my mood but my parents don't know my smoking habit. So I experienced huge moode swing. Felt like going outside and having one
But I did not.

Happy birthday! When i was faced with booze this past week i had a short conversation with the bottles. It basically involved me telling the bottles that i've been doing fine without them for months and just because i could see them changed nothing. I still don't need them and i don't need them to make me happy. My happiness comes from within me, not from inside a bottle. That's where your happiness is. Reach down and find what makes you truly happy. Sharing a story, cooking, singing a favorite song, playing games...there's lots of happiness inside you. Share it!

NRT HF!

My family thought I quit smoking years ago and I would spent whole weekends just having nicotine gum and lozenges.

You still don't sound entirely happy in your sobriety though HF? Do you have good days and bad days or are you feeling pretty down most of the time? xxx

Im so glad I did not drink on my birthday and I stayed sober throughout my first holiday. A week away from my safe place home is not as easy as I thought. As booze is everywhere.

Dee.. my parents don't know that I quit booze but still smoke. They noticed me not drinking. Did not ask me much about it. They were glad I look better.
