What a wild ride! Day 4 and counting
I have had a wild ride with detox/recovery so far. I had a "last hurrah!" (1/2 a bottle of wine) around 3am on Monday morning before I went into my Detox facility. BAD IDEA.
The detox facility I joined is fantastic and has so many happy staff members and many other happy people also in recovery. I was overwhelmed by all the laughter at first and all the support I received right away. How wonderful!
After we all walked down to an AA meeting on the beach we came back and chilled out for a bit before we were to have another meeting. I was sitting on a couch and then next thing I knew I was crying on the floor in pain, with a counselor trying to console me and telling me the ambulance was on its way. WHAT?!!! It turned out I blacked out and had two seizures. I was hysterical and couldn't breathe. I was rushed to the emergency room and I have been in the hospital being monitored ever since with IV's in me, blood samples being drawn, tests being run, and being handed drugs left and right. I haven't had any withdrawl symptoms since my seizure but it was sure a wake up call. It's been 4 days and I am not looking back. I never want to experience this again!
I'm hopefully going to be released from the hospital tomorrow and I will return to the detox facility to get the emotional support I need. The hospital provided the medical support but my family is really pushing me to get the emotional help. I just want to go home but since this is so important for them (and for me) I'm going to stick it out.
Sorry for the short story but I wanted to tell my story. Everyone PLEASE be careful when you detox and do it under supervision. If I was at home by myself I might not be here right now posting.

Thank you so many people need to read that , they just dont know how dangerous alcohol detox is. So many think hard drugs are the worst.
Glad you were where you were. Take it easy and your right you never have to go thru that again.
Get back to treatment and keep us posted.

I know scary that can be-I've been there. It's frightening to wake up and be told you had a seizure that you have no memory of. Plus the fatigue, headache, muscle pain, and probable tongue bite pain (never had a seizure without biting my tongue). Hopefully, the worst is over and you can continue on with your recovery.
