Post It's amazing how easy it is to fall back into bad habits!

Gave up the alcohol for about 3 months. Then last week I got some free time to myself and decided to have something to drink...just for one night. One night became three nights. Then I stopped easily and was proud of myself for enjoying myself and not letting it get too out of control.

Then a few days ago for no real reason at all I decided again, "just for one night". One night turned into 4 nights. And suddenly I realize that in the last 14 nights I drank 7 of them. And the feelings of anxiety are coming back...the lack of energy...weird body symptoms...and just starting to feel unhealthy again. This after 3 months of eating right, exercising, losing weight, and getting healthier. So I have to regain focus here.

I guess it's true that old habits die hard?

Ma used to tell me that we each get as many chances as we need to learn what we need to know. Life being like that and all.

Looking at my drinking history, I think she was right.

Until you accept that you can never drinkagain, this will keep happening.

It did for me, for solid 7 years after realizing I do have a problem.

Some people need a true bottom to get better, some do not...

My bottom still left everything intact, but I was certainly starting to lose my mind.

Get honest with yourself and stop flirting with the idea of being able to control.

Good luck !!

Thanks.

Yeah...I don't want it to get back to the way it was or get worse but it all happened so quickly. Feels like I blinked and suddenly here I am again letting it get away from me. I guess I got a little too comfortable.

I have to admit that I never really did see it as stopping forever. I knew in the back of my mind that I still wanted to be able to enjoy it from time to time. Guess I didn't realize it just wasn't that easy. It's like my brain suddenly went right back to where it was and started changing all my priorities again. Weird. Yeah, I don't plan on hitting any bottom. I'm already low enough as it is. lol That's why I'm here posting and getting my head focused...not going to let this turn into weeks and then months again.

It does. That's the crazy thing. I went about 3 months and that is the longest I've been sober as an adult. It was the first time I really realized I needed to change what I was doing. And I was feeling happy, full of energy most days, and really getting healthier and in better shape. Compare that to how I feel (like crap) the whole day after drinking the night before and it makes me wonder why I would want to do that to myself. I'm definitely going to put a plan together again.

I think one of the hardest things for me to accept was the fact that I always started drinking again at the point I left off...or worse...

there really was no going back for me....and no real hope of control.

good to see you again JAR
