Welcome Inaminute, your post showed up just fine. :)

Tell us a little more about yourself, whatever you feel comfortable sharing. Is alcohol your drug of choice, or something else?

Forget "one day at a time" and ignore the huge sober future that you see looming. Think about how great it feels to not use or drink. How much more steady and balanced and on top of things you are. Think about how clear the sky looks and how the fog of interacting with other people has been lifted. Just think about being clear. That's all. Make life clear and enjoy it for being IT, not being substituted with a buzz or a high. The world is too beautiful to change with chemicals. We're all here for you.

Unfortunately I drinks too much, not quite sure how to go about changing that. I'm tired of telling my kids, "in a minute"... When they ask to play or do something because mommy needs to finish her drink first. Thanks for responding guys. I often feel techtarded...

Is AA an option? Or counseling, or another type of support, like SMART Recovery? Can you talk to your doctor, a pastor, etc?

Most people need a plan of action and support to STAY quit. Visiting here often will help too! I see lots of people posting about wanting to quit for their kids, you are definitely not alone here.

((Inaminute)) - Welcome to SR!! I had never been on a forum before SR, so I, too, felt a bit "technically challenged". Five years later, you can't get me OFF of here:)

My suggestion is to read around. It's what I did and wow, I found out I wasn't alone..there were a lot of other people like me!! That helped.

It's like a really big family here...welcome:)

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Welcome to SR. Great to meet you. I've been sober 60 days, and there is no more "in a minute" from me to my kids. I am enjoying every minute of my new life, and you can too.
Take time to read people's posts. Hear what worked for them. This is THE best place to lay a foundation for a new and sober future. We're all willing you on x

You might try calling AA. Click on this to get a phone number for your location ------> Alcoholics Anonymous : Local Resources that provide A.A. Meeting Information

Perhaps one day you will change your name here (they do allow it). Perhaps to something like whatayaneedkido.

Wishing you and yours the best.

I really don't want to do this anymore and don't know where to start to stop! I can't go anywhere public. I'm tired...

Inaminute 08-01-2012 10:43 PM

Thank you to those who did reply, makes me feel so not alone!

Dee74 08-01-2012 10:52 PM

Hi again

I found a lot of support here on SR...the community here really helped me turn my life around...

it works best when you check in regularly tho I think...:)
Think of your recovery as something where you'll get out of it what you put in...

start thinking of what else you can put in? :)

D

Inaminute 08-01-2012 11:14 PM

Thanks D...where do I start? How do I start?

Dee74 08-01-2012 11:25 PM

Looking at the recovery programmes around is a good place to start I think :)

If public's not your thing, a lot of recovery programmes have online meetings now...some programmes like Rational Recovery have no meetings at all :)

Here's some links to some of the main players:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach, like Rational Recovery or SMART :)

at least look through the links...get a feel for whats out there :)

Thanks...wish me luck! I have to do this!

Inaminute 08-01-2012 11:33 PM

Thanks...

Inaminute 08-01-2012 11:38 PM

It's complicated ?...I can't do anything public... Which is why I reached out here. Can I do this alone?

awuh1 08-02-2012 12:03 AM

It’s quite difficult to do alone. I know because I tried. It’s certainly possible, others have, but I was not able to do it that way.

At home you can read the first 164 pages of the basic text of alcoholics anonymous here ------> http://2travel.org/Files/AA/BigBook.pdf
