Booze will be served tomorrow

Hi

Its day 171.

Im going out tomorrow. Haven't been partying for a while now. I agreed to go as I thought booze won't be there.
Got a message: a reminder to bring drinks as everyone will bring some.
I bought myself energy drink. Not sure how will I cope when I see others drinking their wine.

hi,

do you have to go? if you feel it will compromise your sobriety then maybe make your excuses.

Congrats on 171 days!! That's awesome, and something you should be very proud of. Is there any way you can arrive late/leave early? I think what to do depends on how you feel when alcohol is around.

The sober time you've accumulated for yourself
will hopefully be a strong recovery foundation to
live your life upon for many one days at a time
for yrs. down the road. 171 days for any alcoholic
is nothing to sneeze over because we know just
one day sober is hard to do. So kudos for ur sober
time.

Take the tools and knowledge you've learned and
aquired over these past 171 days and apply it to
each day and to all situations you face. If your gut
is telling you something different or you feel very
uncomfortable then listen to your gut, because for
me it never steers me wrong. It may do the same
for you as well.

Remember the journey in recovery you are on and
putting yourself in an awkward situation where you
maybe tempted to drink, then there could be consequences
for wrong action you take. But then there could be an
awesome reward if you make the right choice.

Another sober day and another step in building
your strong foundation to living a healthy, happy,
honest life.

Thank you for kind words! I am going because I really want to be out there meeting new people. Booze is everywhere and will be everywhere, so I can't keep hiding from it, I just need to learn not to have it. Ive been sober for 171 days, I hope that is enough to be ok tomorrow.

171 days is quite an accomplishment. remember, alcohol is a fact of life in the real world. i went to a 4th of July party where everyone but me, my husband and one other were drinking beer and mixed drinks. later in the night even a little weed came out which isn't my thing but in the past i probably would have taken a couple of hits "just for fun."

now, i bring one or two of my own drinks to keep myself entertained and as a reminder that i have options. it's perfectly fine to socialize without alcohol. just because you attend a get together with alcohol doesn't mean you're expected to drink. it's not like it's a wine tasting party or a bar crawl. know what you're getting into and make decisions accordingly. i turned down my husband's company's picnic because i knew the only thing there that was geared towards adults was food and alcohol and to be honest, the food isn't worth going for.

go and enjoy the company. you won't have been going for the wine in the first place so don't let that be what keeps you from enjoying yourself. don't let other people's drinking alienate you. you aren't bad or different. you're like a vegetarian going out to dinner with friends. you just make different choices in what you consume and that's fine. it's your lifestyle choice and it's a good one. believe in yourself and believe in your sobriety. you have 171 days. take what you've learned and apply it to the real world. part of that is knowing your limits so if you find that your sobriety is going to be pushed beyond it's limits have an excuse ready to excuse yourself early if you need to. part of taking care of yourself is allowing yourself to enjoy the real world but not at the risk of your sobriety. believe in yourself but be realistic. good luck. you can do it!

You say that you are not sure how you will cope. Why not? This is in your control. You get to choose how you are going to cope. Picture what is going to happen in your mind first, sorta like a dry run.

Make a plan. Anticipate someone offering you a glass of wine, how you will feel, what you are going to do about it. Will you make sure that you will have something in your hand to sip? Will you say to the offer, No thanks, I already have one going? Will you be able to step outside for a minute for a breather if you get panicky? Will you be able to leave when you want to?

Life is full of temptation, but we trust in our common sense and maturity to make the correct decisions. Temptations are manifest by urges or thoughts - but we are not our thoughts. We are so much more than one thought or urge.

I refused to be held prisoner by alcohol while I was drinking, and I refused to be held prisoner while I was sober too. If you go to your event, be calm, serene and confident. You will do this, and you will be so danged proud of yourself afterwards.

all we have to do is refuse the first drink.

Heres a unique idea, dont drink. Thats it plain and simple. No point in trying to "prepare" how to react to the situation. Just sounds like too much work for nothing. Just go and enjoy the party. Oh, I just heard it on the news, booze will be served the day after tomorrow too. Just sayin...

I am sure you'll be fine HF - All you need remember is you're a non drinker - alcohol is poison to you.

Congratulations on 171 days - that's fantastic.

I knw how you feel. Was there at the same spot. I go to parties now and tell people I cannot drink due to my allergies and if they want me not to sneeze and go red the whole night thye should try not to offer me any alcohol. Works like a charm. People just pass me the soda nowadays.

What a night. Just wanted to share with you. There were so many bottles opened in front of me, I lost the count how many! Everyone drunk yesterday. I was offered soooo many times, I kept saying no thanks. Eventually I got myself a glass and poured my energy drink and I looked as everyone else with something in my hand.

Very nice night out, but too much booze. I wish I was a little bit more social and chatted more with people I just met, but being sober its a new skill for me to learn.

Its day 173. Thank you all for supporting me.
