Never say never....
Never say never....
Saturday, July 14, 2012. Sitting here in my beautiful, once tornado ravished apartment, watching my cat enjoy the breeze coming through the open slider and basking in the morning sun. Calm, content, serene, grateful, sober.
Saturday, January 14, 2012. Suspended from work. Hung over. Regretting conversations from the night before both verbal and written. Sad, shakey, sick, suspicious, shame filled.
I am six months sober and well into my recovery. I do not drink. There are two major reasons for this fact: Sober Recovery and my desire to stay stopped. SR has been the base of my journey. My SR "family" is nothing short of fantastic.
Headed to see some people who mean very much to me, though I do not get to see them as often as I would like to. I will be receiving a beautiful blue token that I will wear, literally, for all the world to see in my very public job in a casino. AA is very important to me, but does not consume me. I work really diligently at remaining sober, by the grace of God and with daily support from SR. I also know that I am a work in progress and it is one foot in front of the other, day by day.
Six months ago I would have NEVER thought I would be involved in any kind of recovery effort for my alcoholism. Today I have two. Never say never, gang. I am a walking testament that we can all do this with a little tenacity, faith, and encouragement - whether it be tangible and huggable or login and readable.
Life is soberlicious - live it to the best of your ability - NEVER say never!!

Six months is an enormous accomplishment Tammi. Congratulations. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Best wishes.
My coworkers's daughter works in a casino and has told some pretty incredible stories of addiction to gambling. She says is not uncommon for security guards to have to drag gamblers away from the slot machines after customers complaint of foul odors. It appears these gamblers lose touch with their bodies and pee and poop on themselves while playing the slots. Sometimes they play for 2 and 3 day straight. Casinos in this part of town open 24/7. Addiction is a terrible terrible thing.
Enjoy your sobriety. You deserve it.
