The New Kid in Town

Hi all. Finally found the courage to make my first post on this forum after months of viewing. Even more important, as the username indicates, I've not had a drink sine July 9th which by my reckoning is 4 days. Felt much better today after 3 days of feeling awful (serious binge at the weekend) and have vowed that this will be my last attempt at quitting as I just don't think I have any more attempts at quitting left in me if this one fails.

I don't drink every day. I regularly go several days without one but when I drink, I just don't stop. If it wasn't for work, I would probably drink all day every day which would only result in one outcome. I have everything to live for, great wife and kids, successful career etc etc but just don't seem to be able to live life without alcohol!

I no longer want ........ Mood swings, headaches, sweats, tantrums, arguments, unkindness towards my family etc etc. Just want a normal life, peace of mind and my self respect back. (I really don't want to hate myself anymore because I really am not a bad person).

Thanks live2run. Huge ambition of mine to start running once I feel well enough. kind of neglected myself over the past 10 years so a little top heavy. Cheers!

We have a lot in common as for the way we drink.

What are you doing recovery wise or are you going to go at it alone? As people have said you can find great support here.

Coming here and reading is a great start! I used everything and dropped later what wasn't serving me or I already got everything from I would. The key is to do it. If something isn't working for you try the ones you haven't tried. While you will see some folks take their methods very seriously, the only really serious thing we all agree on is we want to discontinue drinking. It sounds like you have made a great start.

Welcome to SR!

I drank like you did. I used the excuse that I was not a daily drinker so I wasn't a real alcoholic. My binges kept getting worse. When I didn't think it was possible to feel worse about myself, it happened and I hated everything about me.

My like is completely different now that I'm sober. I love it.
