well i am new to this site and wanted to say that it has helped me a lot with understanding the symptoms and what goes on during withdrawal from alcohol. I have been drinking pretty heavily everyday for about 5 years now and have just decided that i want to be done with it. I had my last drink at about 4 in the morning on saturday. yesterday was the worst day of my life. I felt like i was dying from the inside out. This morning was a little better and now this afternoon i can really feel an improvement. I have never sweated so much in my life. my heart races every now and then, and sleeping is impossible. I drank about a handle and a half a week of vodka. how long does everyone think this stupid withdrawal will last? any feedback would be really appreciated. i read through this thread and you guys seem like good people. Thank you in advance
Welcome jlip
I moved your post to its own thread
Have you thought about seeing a Dr at all?
Not trying to scare you, your experience seems pretty common...but detox can sometimes be rough - seeing a Dr is a good idea I think.

Withdrawal is usually over within a week but don't hesitate to seek medical help if you start feeling really bad or are afraid of what you're experiencing. Welcome to SR! :ghug3
hi jlip,
I know exactly how you feel. I drank vodka every day for two years and had several horrible withdrawal periods. You best ally right now is time. Your body and mind needs to adjust to the absence of alcohol. Most of the physical symptoms such as the sweating, shakes, and insomnia will improve after a week. Just eat tons of fruit/veggies, stay hydrated and ride it out. And of course, consult a doctor.
