My first sober vacation was much easier than I had anticipated. Yours will be, too. Don't be afraid.......enjoy!! You will LOVE remembering every detail of it.

Just took my dog for another walk. And didn't have to puke in the forest like last year!

Eating lots helps me if I'm craving! Enjoy some delish food, as much as u want and know its still 1000's of calories less than a carton of beer

What really helped me when I had the urge to drink on vacation was to call my AA sponsor.

She reminded me how incredibly selfish it would be for me to drink, and asked me if I thought it was God's will for me to get drunk as well.

She couldn't not take the drink for me, but calling was helpful.

I hope you have someone you can call if need be, if not we are here...

I have called her twice. This last time was during my walk. I was feeling so peaceful and content that I had to tell someone so that I would have proof in the future for when I forget.

I love this thread.

I had vacation fears too. They are so much more fun and restful without booze—who would have thought?

No puking in the forest this time... classic! I just wish it wasn't so easy for me to relate to that particular before-and-after image, lol...

Didn't sleep well last night, but still off to an awesome start! Took a lovely walk at 6am with my dad and doggie. Ate breakfast and now off to Branson to see the ripley museum. Later my brother will arrive. Today feels like a gift.

Walking my dog is a big part of my sobriety therapy. It's impossible not to smile when they are romping around playing. Keep going dear. It really does get easier. It becomes a habit. A good habit. Hugs. Good job!

Awesome stuff aeo, walking does wonders for me too. Specially with the doggie. Keep it up and enjoy your time, because this is HUGE you can make it back home and really be proud of yourself for treating you to the best you you can be.

End of a good day. Didn't want to drink, even when my dad and husband had beer sample shots at lunch. Went to museum and then came home and jet ski with my daughter. She thinks I rock right now bc I let her drive. When walking dog tonight I couldn't get ahold of my sponsor so I called another girl just to say hi and we ended up talking for 25 minutes. It's so nice to be able to talk with someone and know its ok to be totally honest. Such an amazing feeling.

Went to a meeting last night. They can smoke in meetings here and so that part was awful to sit in it for an hour. It was a small meeting. Maybe 10 people. It was ok but I don't think I will go to any more while I am here.

No cravings to drink yesterday. We went to my favorite drinking restaurant for lunch and instead of drinking I built sand castles with my kids.

Sounds cheesy, but having my dog here is a huge help. I am enjoying the peace of walking with her and being with her. I should have brought her last month when I came here and had such a hard time.

Off to go jet ski and then to the outlet mall. With my 13 yo daughter. God help me !!
