Top Three Positive Actions in Sobriety?

Hi everyone-

I was having a revelation tonight about all of the actions that I'm taking in sobriety that I could never seem to get a handle on while drinking. Actions that are making me a better person. Not surprisingly, the list is long, but to narrow it down to the top three:

1) Having the ability and willingness to really LISTEN to other people
2) Letting little things go, especially those I can't control
3) Working out, eating healthy, sleeping well, taking overall care of myself

What are yours?

1) Ditto to your #3
2) More patience with my daughter (she's 2 so dang I need it!)
3) Being on the same level as my hubby so we actually have conversations and our relationship is improving twofold

1) Telling the truth; no more secrets
2) Staying in the moment and accepting the present; meditating;
3) listening to the still small voice within me

1) working out, eating right, better sleep schedule

2) setting goals and taking steps to achieve them instead of doing but get drunk before

3) just living life and being present, in the moment, lucid, just being alive. instead of living in a drunken cloud of misery.

1) living honestly wih myself and others
2) being open to experience the world around me and embracing it with a clear mind
3) humbling myself to my addiction and letting go my ego when i start thinking i have some kind of control over it and being happy with that state of being

A very close 4 is taking my medication as perscribed. It may actually be number 1 but i've been so diligent in doing it that i don't even realize how much good it's doing me.

1) Not isolating-go to meetings, the store, out with a friend, the library-anything but sit alone in my room.
2) Don't dwell on the past. Have a healthy respect for it but focus more on the here and now.
3) Putting my sobriety first instead of trying to be a people pleaser. Paying attention to my limits. Don't allow myself to get HALT.

1: Being really honest. I always thought I was an honest person but really I wasn't, as a drinker.
2: Becoming more accepting and thankful and serene. This is definitely a work in progress!
3: Feeling physically better and knowing that I'm taking an extremely big step towards safeguarding my physical health.

Nice thread

Three positive things for me have been:

1) Getting myself back in shape physically down the gym
2) Being able to do high quality work again
3) Reconnecting with a faith that had gone a little neglected and stale

My family much prefer me sober the whole time as well - they could probably also each produce a list of three good things about my sobriety

1 - Working out and eating right; building my body into something I want it to be, not just abusing the hell out of it for the immediate gratification of intoxication
2 - Being honest and dependable instead of sketchy, unreliable and perpetually hiding my dirty little secret
3 - Growing again, as a person; having confidence, self-esteem, hobbies and interests, and even starting to sprout fledgling seeds of AMBITION (uh oh, look out, world!)

1. Connection with my Higher Power every morning is giving me my strength to not drink that first drink.
2. Talking to my Higher Power throughout the day to keep me from drinking and keep my mindset right
3. Thanking my Higher Power at night for keeping me from drinking and preparing for the next day.

I have got to keep my connection with my Higher Power strong, for this alcoholism is a horrible thing for me.

Top Three Positive Actions in Sobriety?

1) Realizing I can't get sober on my own. I could get dry on self-will but it was always temporary.
2) Surrendering to the AA program which has saved my life. Booze is not my problem but the medication for my problem.
3) Staying surrendered to AA. Even when my head says "Don't do it. You can't do it. You'll never do it. It's not working. I give up".

All the best.

Drawing inspiration from those I admire greatly, my 3 are:
  1. Self-Empowerment: Without it I would be dying in the streets as a hopeless dope addict.
  2. Education. Knowledge is power: Being a fool kept me sick for decades.
  3. Naturalistic Spirituality: It keeps me grounded in times of unrest.

    Be the freedom you seek!
