Wrote a song about the struggle
Hi all,
I'm 25 days into my 3rd attempt at stopping drinking and i wrote a song about it. It's called monster in my shadow. Here are the lyrics
Frozen
No end in sight
Take the medicine
Gonna try to call it "all in"
I saw it in the physical that night
and my touch is like an icicle
touch me,
Kiss me goodnight
I'll pretend I can care a little
It's alright
Tell me I'm getting warmer now
Saw it coming up but now it's getting colder
Why bother?
It won't last this time
That's how it goes
Can you tell me something I don't already know?
Feeling kind of frozen
Every step I make jut takes me further below
It's like a monster in my shadow

I was thinking of a song to reflect the experiences with alcohol. The one that I kept thinking about was Styx Queen of Spades. I'm fairly sure this was about a gambling addiction but alot of the lyrics hit home for alcohol too.

I really like it. I started writing recovery songs when I got sober, and I fell in love with the potential of YouTube to share it. I've been writing poetry for 15 years, but I've always found myself in the company of amazing musicians. If I told you the absolute legend I spent time with just this week, or the woman I'm set to have coffee with this weekend...man it's such a gift to be with people I respect so much, especially when so many of them are sober/clean themselves. Too many incredibly talented people have been taken out by this deal. I hope you live to share your experience and redemption with the artfulness you've got. Just one last thing, I see you're in Austin and I know of an incredibly good group there - thought I would paste a link so you can take a look and decide yourself: Austin Primary Purpose Group Maybe you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain?
