13 days and the break through the fog

Yesterday I sat on the deck watching my kids play (which I never did in the past without a drink) and suddenly, I actually really saw my children. Not through a numb, foggy illusion but clearly saw their smiles and their expressions. And then I noticed how much greener and beautiful the trees look through sober eyes.
But the real breakthrough came when I thought about my husband with a clear head- I used to be angry when he wouldn't pass me the wine at a dinner party, when he would beg me to stop, when he would pour out my vodka bottles..I used to think he was being unreasonable, selfish, not understanding. But now I see him for exactly what he is: a loving husband who simply does not want his wife to die

Oh that made me well up! I feel the same about my husband now, too. I realise the horror he has been through with me and the fears he's felt about my health and safety. We are truly lucky.

I feel the same watching my kids and husband. I used to totally resent him for pouring out beer or whatever. I get it now. Thanks for your post :0).

That is great EffortJoy. I've been feeling the same way. Like everything is now more vivid and beautiful. I'm so happy to be able to 'see' everything again. So happy for you!

We're proud of you, Effort. We know how difficult it is in the beginning. You're already reaping the rewards of being clear headed. I wish I could have a re-do for my son's childhood. I know I missed so many lovely times, where I just phoned it in.

Thanks for a lovely post - it's very inspiring. Congratulations on your new life.

Oh god, what a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing this.

Every time I see a parent here on SR who is getting better, I feel so happy for their kids.
