alcoholism and gastric bypass
alcoholism and gastric bypass
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place for this but....just wondering how many of you out there have had a gastric bypass? I did five years ago and shortly after became a serious alcoholic. I was a problem drinker before to some extent but nothing like after the surgery. Some friends/relatives just sent me some articles about studies concluding that gb patients have a much higher risk of becoming alcoholic both because of cross-addiction but even more so due to the change in anatomy that occurs. Anyway, just curious to see if that statistic pans out.

You absorb alcohol 5 times faster after GB. That is why. Its common to switch 1 addiction for another. The faster absorption makes it easier for organ damage/failure to occur. You need to talk to your surgeon about it ASAP.
