My Weekend: A glimpse of Rehab

This weekend I went to see my Dad at a Rehab Center. He’s been there for a few weeks now. It was an interesting experience. We got to visit for a while and he showed me where his room is. We then watched a movie by Claudia someone about the domino effect of alcoholism on families. It was interesting and mostly pointed at the visitors and not the addicted person. After that, us visitors all went to a meeting with a counselor and talked about how it was to be in the family with someone that has an addiction. It was an interesting meeting hearing things from the other side of the addiction. It was hard to see the hurt family members there and talking about how hard it had been coping with their addicted persons addiction. It was a real eye opener for myself. I’m so glad I caught this now, and didn’t put my family is that position. I also got a chance to tell my dad face to face about my own problems with alcohol.

It was a really good experience for me. I hope everyone had a great and SOBER weekend!

WOW! Thanks for sharing your experience and WOW for sharing you problems with alcohol with your dad.

In my experience, Honesty sets us free.

I had a great weekend with two road races yesterday. 5 miles in the AM in Central Park, 5K at sunset at a little town race. It was an awesome way to spend a sober summer Sunday.

Honesty DOES set us free! He was surprised to hear it, but I told him we could do this together.

Congrats on your races! I haven't raced since the beginning of may!

Sounds like a really important weekend you had...you are doing so well!

I'm off for a run and then to an AA meeting. It's still so weird to be in the house alone without kids...5 more days of quiet!

It was important! I was dreading going because it was a long trip but I ended up really glad to have gone!

Keep running and going to AA! You'll enjoy the quiet! =)

So proud of you for going and visiting and opening up to your Dad. I bet that was a difficult thing to do.

All I can say is - Thanks for the post - It brought back memories. I'd have loved to be able to talk sobriety with my dad. Kleenex anyone?

I think you are a remarkable young lady to face your problem head on while being emotional support to your dad at the same time. Sending a big hug your way; keep up the good work.
