first NA meeting tonight i have my first na meeting tonight and am kinda freaking out about it. i dont want to get blown off as a light weight because this is a major thing to me but may not be the hardest drug that someone has come off of. i just was wondering if i should go up and talk at the first meeting or if i should just sit back and listen at my first meeting? |
Don't compare yourself to others. Relate in to what is said and know you are doing the best for you today by not picking up any drug. The meetings are similar to AA meetings. Just go and listen. You aren't alone anymore! |
thank you for the words of encouragement ive been tryin not to cry al day about this garbage but i absolutly refuse to pick up another opiate again unless i have broken my leg or something like that lol. by the way would that be considered a relaps? and is it true what they say about you getting a token to keep with you as a reminder of your soberity? i know spelling sucks but hopefully you get what im saying |
Some meetings give out tokens, some don't. I received a keychain from NA when I went to those meetings. You can always do a search for: narcotics anonymous your city your state and if it ends with na.org it's most likely an official NA site. Call the number and ask if they know which meetings give out tokens. I work the AA desk, and unless a meeting specifies to us, we don't have any idea who gives out chips unless we've been there! You'll be ok. NO PILLS; my suggestion for now. one leads back to too many. Try staying stopped for now! Hugs, |
lol yea im not planning on jumpin off the roof of my house or anything lol and im a pretty careful type person so i dont see me cutting a finger off or breaking any bones lol i do have one other question to ask of you. i have been diagnosed with depression or rather dystima and generalized anxiaty disorder so i have scripts for an antidepressant and xanex i have never had a problem giving up the xanex except when i am having a major mental meltdown for lack of better words lol but i have been taking one mg of xanex a day in the morning when i get up and im prescribed three a day so do you think i should drop em or keep goin the way i am going because today is only my second day sober and had a really bad morning? and how many posts do i have to have to get friends on here or send private messages or join social groups just wondering? and wish me luck tonight lol 8:00 is d hour for me woo hoo nervous as hell |
day 2 and first NA meeting tonight going on my second day without any pain killers and seem to be doing fine. just that the stinky river im up missing the wooden thingy is turning into rapids lol sorry sick joke i know but i have to keep the humor up or i will drop into a depression. i would kinda like to know some of the guildlines of NA or AA meetings and if i should go up at talk on my first day or sit back and just listen cause im nervous as hell about it. thats the reason i didnt go to last nights meeting was i was scared i would be looked at like a lightweight compared to some of the people in the meeting. any advice would be great |
I've never been to a meeting but I've heard a LOT about them and from what I've heard no one is going to view you as a lightweight. It takes a lot of courage to walk through that door and attend in the first place and you aren't obligated to say or do anything if you don't want to, no one is going to judge you. |
SO, I have been to a few meetings, and I was very nervous too just to walk through that church basement door. I didn`t talk at this first meeting, but there was a part where sober folks picked up a special coin that celebrated their sober time, like 3 months, six months, 5 years, and so on. They also had a coin for anyone who was 24 hours sober. I hiked up my pants and stepped forward and accepted that coin to a round of applause. On the way back to my seat, 7 people reached out to shake my hand. That made me feel great. I bet the same thing will happen to you, too. |
There's a link to an AA pamphlet on your first meeting. I don't know where it is, but you can always do a search on it. I found this: ►► video.about.com/.../What-to-Expect-at-AA-Meetings.h... (I don't know how this link will appear, but the search I did was: aa your first meeting) It's always good to read the book Alcoholics Anonymous before your first meeting. It's online. The NA book may not be available online anymore, but can be purchased at a meeting or they may give you one. Best Wishes! |

I'm glad you're working on your recovery. |
well i tried i tried finding two NA meetings this evening and got nowhere one was a lady that had no idea what i was talking about and the other had moved to a different building and only do meetings on like tuesdays so im kinda emotional now. i wanted to get this one first meeting under my belt so i can say i am in the process of recovery but everytime i turn around there is a roadblock stopping me and it makes me want to just start back again but then i know i will end up having to do the same thing all over again. i dont know why AA can have meetings daily but NA is hit and miss? is it funding or what?:headbange |
Most likely it is due to funding. We are self supporting through our own contributions, which includes rent. If no one shows up, no one gives donations to keep the meeting running. More NA meetings seem to relocate than AA meetings. You are always welcome at an AA meeting (alcohol is a Class IV Narcotic), but it's best to identify as an "alcoholic" (unless you are near me where it's okay more often than not to identify as an alcoholic who "accessorized"). xa-speakers.org has speaker tapes (recorded meetings) and there are AA, NA, OA, gamblers anon and other groups on there. It's like being at the meeting. I prefer the AA talks over the NA talks on there, though. Please search: narcotics anonymous city state Then call the hotline to make sure a meeting still exists~ Stop by the chat room and talk with us there! Hugs, |
Prescribed (and non-prescribed) medications ALWAYS need to be discussed with the doctor!!!! |
I merged your two threads. Sorry the meetings didn't exactly pan out fully but don't take it personally - things happen. Maybe ring the local office for the most up to date information? SB is right tho - please ask medication questions of your Dr....it's the best thing and we can't give you medical advice here anyway :) D |
