Helping is Good Medicine; Who did YOU help today?

I find sometimes focusing less on my own problems and helping others gives me perspective, which greatly supports my sobriety.

Today I tried to help a friend in need. And I also helped my Grandmother by buying and wrapping up a gift for her to give my Father. It made both she and my Dad happy. And that helped me....

Who did you help today?

I bought something to help my mum with her PC and sent it to her :)

I replied to some of the posts on SR to share my experience, views and thoughts about alcoholism. While doing so, I am re-instating these thoughts and the same is helping to avoid drinking.

I helped my niece with her twin toddlers today for just a while, and boy what a job she has! I helped my daughter with a social problem she is having when she asked me for advice. Felt good to help. In both cases my problems seemed small to me when they were feeling big before.

I asked someone at work to give me some of their workload today because I had less work today and they were overwhelmed. My mind has been so slow and stuck like glue this week that I really didn't want to. Lol But I was glad I did it without being asked and so was she.

I helped a younger less experienced employee with some work situations she asked for guidance on. I helped a peer at lunch time problem solve about a personal issue. Helped my daughter by listening to some anxiety she has about a career change.

They weren't big things. But glad to be sober so I could at least do that little bit. Especially when everyone has done so much for me.

I called another member this morning as she was extremely distressed at a meeting last night and left early. I spoke to my sponsor about it, because I felt kind of weird just calling someone to see how they are, but I looked at my motives and realised that it's just alien behaviour for me :p :)

I have stayed late on a holiday weekend to do something for my boss so he could leave early on vacation. It is a big pain in the neck kind of thing, with lots of settling of complaints, and has caused me much frustration, but, I am glad I can help him.

He has helped me sooo much in the past. When my Mom was sick he always let me leave work at a moments notice if the Dr called. And when she died, he and his wife came to the viewing and the funeral. And a bunch of work people gave me some of their vacation hours when I ran out of paid time off, so I could be in hospice with her round the clock, and still get paid.

What a great group of people. I am so lucky.

I did my volunteer job of serving lunch at a local senior center. I got to eat lunch, after hours, with a friend I've met who is 30 years into recovery:) I'm teaching him about codependency (his daughter is an A). Though I'd often read here about volunteering, I had NO idea how good it could feel:)

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

telling others what i do to help others negates it as being a good deed for God.

My wife had a work function to attend tonight, so I helped us both out by picking up some of the slack around the house. It's nice to be someone that people (including myself) can depend on again.

I tried to help my sister with a huge medical bill she recieved for an ER visit. Thousands of dollars she owes. She has major medical catastrophic coverage only. I sent her a website for her to check against the reasonable and customary charges to see if that hospital bill's charges are too high. Then I told her I would help her negotiate with the hospital to get her bill lowered.

I helped as many people as I could here on SR by welcoming and sharing my esh. I was as nice to everyone as I possible could in real life today too, I was also really good to myself too as I find that helps me to help others ;-)

Have a great day!

Well, it's pretty early. But drove my daughter to work because she could not find her keys. 6:45 am!
